Materials strategic food is a basic necessity of consumption of Indonesian society. Lack of a strategic food supply and price volatility unnatural greatly affect the welfare of society. Experience shows that availability and prices are often volatile due to various factors inside and outside the country, such as climate phenomena, market failure, to the smooth distribution problems. Even the food was recorded as the biggest contributor to inflation in the economy of Indonesia (volatile).

The strategic importance of the role of food and the high frequency of the turmoil on the availability and price of food, requiring the government intervening in the market through policy instruments owned, so the availability and price of foodstuffs strategically managed at a reasonable level fluctuations. Policy tools can touch producer, consumer, distribution or niaganya system, which was published in various hierarchy of regulations, both national and local.

Basic Materials Commodities Market monitoring is mandated by the National Logistics Blueprint for the Ministry of Commerce. The Ministry of Trade is responsible for leading Basic Materials Commodity Markets Monitoring this with the support of other ministries, namely: Ministry for Econ, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry. Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, Bappenas and the Chamber of Commerce. Basic Materials Commodities Market monitoring is one of the action plan of the national logistics system in deciding the commodity pillar targeted for completion in 2011-2012, in which the action plan is a priority of the 2nd group of three groups of priority Blueprint National Logistics System. Commodity Markets Monitoring jobs Staples will be implemented taking into account the aspects set out in the Blueprint for the National Logistics System.

Formally Monitoring Commodity Markets Basic Materials inaugurated on June 23, 2011 by Ms. Mari Elka Pangestu. In line with the role that has been the Ministry of Trade, Commodity Markets Monitoring format Staples took a position as a Public Facilitator and the Public Agency for Monitoring Commodity Markets Basic Materials. Basic Materials Commodities Market monitoring is built to provide accurate and reliable information on staple commodities, provide notification (alert) to stakeholders and provide scenarios for solving problems that can be implemented in the event of a crisis / problem staple.
